Gateway status will not affect city, say groups

BUSINESS groups, unions and Opposition politicians were very sceptical yesterday about Cork’s potential to become a gateway for major investment and growth over the next 20 years.

Cork is one of nine cities and towns designated as gateways for investment outside Dublin and it will be given priority when the Government makes decisions about decentralisation, road and rail infrastructure and broadband communications.

Health Minster Micheál Martin and Cork deputy Noel O'Flynn said they were confident that the new strategy would deliver major investment for the city and southern region.
