Man fights for life after window fall
The man, in his 20s, suffered severe head injuries in the fall, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in Dublin’s south inner city.
“He is still critical. He suffered serious head injuries, which were inflicted from the fal,” said a garda spokesman.
The man was being treated at Beaumont Hospital, the country’s specialist centre for head injuries, based in north Dublin.
Detectives suspect the man have may have fallen out the window following a row or may have been pushed out by another person.
“We are investigating how he came to fall out the window. It is possible there was an altercation,” said a garda.
Detectives will try and ascertain the cause for the apparent fight to see if it was crime-related.
The man fell 20 feet from the upstairs of a two-story house, which is set out in apartments.
Officers at Kevin Street Station were alerted to a house on South Circular Road between 3.45am and 4am on Sunday after an emergency call from a neighbour.
The injured man was brought to nearby St James’s Hospital. Once doctors assessed the seriousness of the head injuries he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
Gardaí immediately began interviewing the occupants of the apartment and the house.
They also spoke to the neighbour who rang the gardaí and other potential witnesses.
“There are lots of witnesses who we are speaking to and we are conducting door-to-door inquiries,” said a garda.
The area was sealed off and officers from the Garda Technical Bureau carried out examinations of the scene.
The injured man was not living in the apartment, which was being rented by someone else.
Detectives have talked to the occupants of the apartment.
“We have spoken to people who live in the apartment. We are still looking into the number of people who were in the flat,” said a garda.
