Court adjourns application to open Stringfellows club

Sabley Taverns Ltd want to set up a Stringfellows-type strip club in the former Playmates lapdancing club in Parnell Street.

However, a large number of residents, an organisation fighting prostitution and the previous owners of the premises are objecting.

Dublin District Court heard yesterday that two hours were available next Monday for the hearing of the case which the applicants believed was sufficient time to deal with the issues involved.

However, Gerard Brady BL, for the residents, said this was not enough time, nor could adequate notice be provided to the large number of objectors involved.

Some of the objectors’ evidence would involve an expert travelling from Britain, he said.

But Judge John O’Neill said he was not able to offer an alternative date and the parties would have to make their case before the hearing begins next Monday as to why it should be adjourned again.
