Planes diverted as airport upgrades

TWO aircraft had to be diverted from Cork Airport last week because navigation systems weren’t functional on one of the runways.

And passengers have been warned that more diversions could occur in the next couple of months as the Irish Aviation Authority upgrades the systems.

Airport manager, Joe O'Connor said the navigation system affected only one of the runways at this stage and it would only become an issue in the event of bad weather.
