U2 apologise for ticketing ‘mess up’

The band’s drummer, Larry Mullen, has taken the unprecedented step of publishing an open letter on U2’s website to apologise for the ticketing debacle.

“This is not something that I would normally do, but I feel that I have to do something to redress this situation,” said Mullen.

The drummer admitted there was “a mess up” in the way tickets had been distributed through the band’s website.

Thousands of fans in Ireland will engage in a buying scramble this morning when tickets go on sale for the band’s two homecoming concerts in Croke Park next June.

The office sales agent, Ticketmaster, is expecting its website and telephone lines to be jammed by users from 8am, while several thousand fans are also expected to queue outside ticket outlets.

Vincent Kearns from Crumlin ensured he would not lose out by beginning his vigil outside the Ticketmaster outlet at the St Stephen’s Green centre in Dublin last Tuesday.

“I already managed to get tickets through the website but I’m hoping to get some more ,” said the 38-year-old.
