Gardaí paid over the top for tyres, says watchdog
A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) claims gardaí were overcharged to the tune of €264,000 when buying tyres from Advance Pitstop. The report will be discussed by the Dáil’s Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Fine Gael Deputy John Perry, today.
Senior finance officers from the gardaí and the departments of justice and finance will appear before the committee to answer questions on the controversial contract.
“The public deserves transparency and value for money in every tendering process and we will ensure that happens,” PAC chairman John Perry said. Advance Pitstop has previously accused the C&AG of “manifest errors” in its report on the company’s contract to supply tyres and services to the gardaí.
The report was launched after it emerged the company took senior members of the garda transport section on all-expenses-paid golfing trips to England, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
