THE use of chauffeur services to transport Irish and foreign politicians and officials during Ireland’s presidency of the EU in 2004 is being investigated.

It has emerged both the Comptroller and Auditor General and the gardaí are conducting inquiries into the use of limousines by the Government last year.

It may also be investigated by the European Commission because the awarding of the £2.2 million contract may have been in breach of EU tendering guidelines.
