Rod to line out at Nowlan Park

Rod Stewart, the man who brought us If You Think I'm Sexy is to send pulses racing at Nowlan Park on June 25, when he headlines this year's festival. Tickets go on sale on Thursday and are expected to sell out quickly.

The Scot will be joined by a line-up of support acts, including Natasha Bedingfield, with more special guests to be announced over the coming months. It's the fifth year of the festival, which has drawn thousands to the south east. Previously it has featured Paul Simon, James Taylor and Bob Dylan, who described the vibe at the open-air festival as one of the "music highlights of his year."

"We are delighted to be bringing Rod Stewart to Nowlan Park this year. This is our fifth year in Kilkenny and we're really looking forward to it," said Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions.

Since scoring his first number one hit with the classic Maggie May, Stewart has gone on to sell over 100 million records and continues to give the most enthusiastic performance of all the ageing rockers.

His current album, Stardust The Great American Songbook Volume 3, entered the US Billboard charts at number one. It was his first entry at the summit and his first album to top the US charts for more than 25 years. The album reached number three in the British charts, with increased sales following the recent broadcast of his Royal Albert Hall gig.

The tour, From Maggie May to The Great American Songbook, will include all his greatest hits.

Tickets from €55 go on sale on Thursday at 9.00am from Ticketmaster and all usual outlets.
