Gardaí refuse to work with reserve force

THE Government’s Garda Reserve was thrown into disarray last night after gardaí refused to co-operate with it.

However, Justice Minister Michael McDowell warned gardaí against confrontation and said the will of the Oireachtas had to be obeyed.

The force’s two main garda associations yesterday said they would not work with the voluntary body, which is due to recruit its first 900 members in September.
