IRISH FERRIES is facing a renewed threat of industrial action after workers began balloting yesterday as a row over the introduction of non-unionised contract crew members continues.

The company saw services grind to a halt in December for 10 days before the Labour Court intervened with recommendations aimed at resolving the dispute.

Although SIPTU accepted the court’s proposals, the latest threat stems from the fact that the company has yet to confirm its acceptance of the Labour Court’s recommendations.
