FINE GAEL’s newest MEPs remained tight-lipped last night about whether they would run in the next general election despite party pressure to return home.

Since last year’s European election success, Fine Gael has a total of five members of the European Parliament including first time representatives Máiréad McGuinness, Gay Mitchell and Simon Coveney.

However, party election strategists believe the three are required back home if Fine Gael is to achieve its goal of retaining its current 33 seats and adding another 30.
