A SPANISH holiday for a married West Cork couple turned to tragedy when they were both killed following a road traffic incident in Santa Ponsa.

Last night, a spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a fatal accident involving an Irish couple had happened at the popular resort.

The mother of three children, two girls and a boy in their early 20s, died at the scene.

Yesterday afternoon, the man gave up his fight for life in a Spanish hospital having suffered horrific injuries in the incident.

The couple were hit by a car as they left a restaurant in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca, on Tuesday night.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is today expecting to have full details of the incident.

The couple are from the Bantry area and were in their 40s. Spanish police are expected to issue a statement today.
