€100m retirement village plans are back on track

PLANS for a €100 million retirement village in Limerick were back on track yesterday after a planning hiccup was sorted out.

€100m retirement village plans are back on track

Developer Michael Daly of Fordmount Property Group, said they had supplied additional information sought by Limerick County Council. The council is due to give a planning decision on September 19. But Mr Daly said it is unlikely a final decision will be arrived at by then. He said: “We then expect a request for more information and that would not be untypical when you are dealing with projects of this size.”

All going well, he said they would hope to commence work next January and complete construction within 15 months.

The proposed retirement village, which will be located in the grounds of the Castletroy Park Hotel will cater for 400 residents.

Fordmount purchased the hotel and grounds from US multi-millionaire Chuck Feeney for €25m. A further €100m will be spent on the proposed retirement village.

The village will consist of 45 bungalow homes, apartments, a rest home, medical centre, pharmacy, shopping mall, bank, tennis courts and bowling green.
