Online teaching course could see smaller classes
The 18-month course will allow degree holders qualify as primary school teachers and should ease pressure on overcrowded education colleges.
The online programme is being offered by the Dublin-based Hibernia College, and has been approved by the Higher Education Training and Awards Council and the Department of Education. It is expected to begin classes in October, with the first teachers qualifying in 2005.
“The course provides the same coursework, teaching practice, in-school inspections and exams provided
at other State-recognised teacher training colleges.
But it allows students the flexibility to study without moving to a college and giving up their jobs,” said Hibernian College executive chairman Dr Sean Rowland. The INTO welcomed the new course.
