Gardaí get powers to track suspects by mobile phone

GARDAÍ yesterday welcomed new powers which will help trace the movements of suspects by using mobile phone information.

Under a bill to be signed into law in the coming week, mobile phone companies will be obliged to retain data on the location of calls made and received by a person.

“This will of great assistance in investigating crime,” said one garda source.
