THE battle to allow women join the men-only Portmarnock Golf Club is to be taken to the Supreme Court, the Equality Authority confirmed yesterday.

The High Court ruled in June that the north Dublin club, one of the country’s most exclusive and prestigious links courses, was not breaking any laws by barring women from becoming members or associate members.

The Equality Authority decided to appeal the ruling because of the serious issues raised by the case and the far-reaching consequences of the ruling.
