Bertie faces music and flags plans for EU

IT’S not yet clear if US President George W Bush will provide the lowlight of Ireland’s EU Presidency, but ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ still rang out across Dublin Castle yesterday.

The music wasn’t quite in the castle though, more coming from outside on the street.

But it was loud enough to drown out Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as he officially kick-started his six months as ‘King of Europe’.
