A LIMERICK father and his four sons are making legal history.

Father and four sons make history - behind bars

They’re all in jail together costing the State about €500,000 to provide them with bed and board.

The Dundons have found that crime keeps a family together - albeit behind bars.

Dad Kenny, aged 48, has served much of his life serving jail sentences in this country and Britain.

He is currently in a Dublin prison as he fights an extradition warrant issued by Scotland Yard who want to question him about the murder of Christopher Jacob, aged 50, who was stabbed to death on October 9, 2003.

He has been joined behind bars by his sons, Dessie, aged 21, John, aged 23, Gerard, aged 19, and Wayne, aged 27.

The four brothers have been sentenced for various crimes ranging from murder to assault.

The Dundon boys are first cousins of Limerick’s ‘Mr Big’, the main player in Limerick crime who has gone on trial in London for possession of a powerful submachine gun.

The Dundon family home at Lenihan Avenue Prospect is fortified by high walls and fitted out with CCTV security cameras.

This is where the brothers were brought up after moving from England where they were born.

Prison sources say that no other crime family has had a father and four sons serving jail sentences at the one time in this country.

It is reckoned they cost the taxpayer around €500,000 a year to accommodate and feed.

Dessie was jailed for life with four others when convicted of the murder of Limerick crime boss Kieran Keane.

Wayne got ten years for threatening a Limerick barman who was shot a short time later by an unknown gunman.

The Dundons are part of the McCarthy-Dundon faction, the most feared of the three main Limerick feud gangs. The McCarthy-Dundons have a huge network of extended family in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham who help supply them with drugs and guns.

Kenny was arrested outside the steps of Limerick courthouse last year and is being held in Cloverhill prison as he fights an extradition warrant issued in London in connection with the Jacob murder.

It is believed the brothers and their dad keep in regular touch from their various prison cells.
