Airport traffic up by 24% in June

LAST month was a record June for Cork International Airport, with traffic up by 45,611 passengers, or 24%.

This increase for one month represented almost half the total growth at the airport last year, which was 100,000.

During the month on four of the five Sundays, record numbers were handled with 12,006 passengers handled on June 29. By last Sunday, one million passengers were handled through and an extra 111,000 passengers for this year to date.

Marketing manager John Smyth said they were experiencing huge passenger growth in all markets, the result of very detailed and sustained marketing efforts over the past number of years.

“I am delighted to announce further developments by low-cost airline BMI Baby. They will introduce a second daily flight from Manchester beginning October 1, and a new service four times per week to Cardiff from October 26,” he said.

During the year Cork Airport introduced BMI baby; LTE, a Spanish charter airline based at Cork; JetMagic, the Cork airline, and CSA Czech airlines. As well as new charter destinations to Fuertaventura, Verona and Zakynthos, new scheduled routes were opened to East Midland, Belfast, Alicante, Barcelona, Brussels, Nantes, Nice, Milan, Prague and Rome.
