Two men held in Dublin and Cork over €3m drugs haul

DRUGS with a potential street value of up to €3 million were seized in a series of weekend raids in Cork and Dublin.

Two men were arrested following the hauls which involved substantial quantities of cannabis resin and heroin.

A man in his 20s is due to appear in Kilmainham District Court this morning charged in connection with the Dublin seizure on Saturday morning.

Gardaí at Kevin Street station found two kilogrammes of heroin, with a potential street value of €400,000, when they searched a flat in the inner city. A quantity of cash was also seized.

The Garda Press Office said the Dublin raid was part of an ongoing operation. A man arrested at the scene was detained under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. He is due to appear in court today.

A man in his 30s, arrested in connection with Cork drugs seizures, appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court on Saturday night.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street, Cork found a total of 300kg of cannabis resin with a potential street value of up to €2.5m.

During the garda operation on Saturday morning, about 100kg was found when a van was stopped and searched in Tower, near Blarney.

In a follow-up operation shortly after 4.30pm about 250kg was seized by Cork garda divisional officers who raided a premises in Cobh, Co Cork.
