THE Director of Public Prosecutions has requested a copy of the court transcript in the Ian Bailey libel action.

While the DPP informed Ms du Plantier’s family last year that there would be no prosecution based on the evidence available, it is now understood the libel trial transcripts will be examined to see if any fresh, relevant evidence has come to light which may shed further light on the events surrounding the death.

The original garda investigation, initiated seven years ago, produced a 2,000-page report which was forwarded to the DPP. However, this report failed to produce sufficient evidence to merit a prosecution for the murder.
