Conditions gradually began to return to normal after the rain stopped around midday.

The flooding hit south Dublin particularly parts of Dún Laoghaire, Enniskerry and Stepaside but no damage to property was reported.

A mudslide caused by heavy rains led to problems on the new M50 motorway at the Ballinteer entrance, but local authority staff made the road passable by mid-afternoon.

AA Roadwatch reported a lot of surface water in Stepaside.

However, Ballyogan Road, Glenamuck Road and Enniskerry Road were passable, although motorists were urged to take care.

There was over three feet of water on the Crofton Road, Dun Laoghaire, earlier yesterday and the roadway remained impassable for hours, with traffic being diverted along the Monkstown road.

By mid-afternoon flooding had subsided at the Loughlinstown roundabout, but motorists were being advised to avoid the route. Conditions were also improving at Dundrum, following isolated flooding at Taney Cross.
