Construction worker dies in fall from scaffolding
The accident happened shortly after 11am as the man was working on the outside of a house at Lindville, Blackrock.
The deceased, who is believed to have been in his early 50s, was killed instantly after he fell three storeys. He has not yet been named by gardaí.
His death comes just 24 hours after a window cleaner in his 40s was killed after falling from the second storey of a building opposite the GPO in Dublin’s O’Connell Street.
The man, who also hasn’t been named, is understood to have come from the Kilbarrack area of the city.
Yesterday’s death was the third fatal industrial accident in Cork so far this month. On January 7, Damien Crowley, 30, from Togher, was killed at Tivoli docks.
It is believed possible hydraulic failure caused part of the lifting equipment he was operating to malfunction and fall on top of him.
Just two days before another man was killed at the same terminal.
David McCormack, a 42-year-old lorry driver from Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, was crushed when his truck suddenly moved forward, pinning him between the cab and the trailer.
He had been working in the Murphy Transport-operated compound at the docks when the accident happened.
