Drink driver gets three months’ jail

William Faulkner, aged 40, of 23 Dunmore Gardens, Knocknaheeny, Cork, made no appearance at Cork District Court yesterday and the case which was listed for hearing was dealt with in his absence.

Garda Pat Lyons of Gurranabraher Garda Station testified yesterday that he was in a patrol car in the Hollyhill area when a motorist flagged down the car to tell them that he thought the driver of a blue Micra was highly intoxicated.

The patrol car caught up with the car in question at Harbour View Road and followed it down Colmcille Road. “It was swerving and a vehicle coming towards it had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. He put on the blue warning lights and the siren and the driver pulled over,” he said.

That was at 1am on Christmas Eve night/Christmas Day and the driver was William Faulkner.

On subsequent testing of the urine sample, the reading was 264 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of urine.

Judge Uinsin MacGruairc imposed a three-month sentence on Faulkner yesterday for drunken driving, a concurrent three-month sentence for driving without insurance and a concurrent one-month term for having no driving licence.

Two other related charges were taken into consideration. Faulkner was also banned from driving for two years.
