EuroMillions jackpot to hit €125m

Punters can invest as little as €2 for the biggest-ever prize in European lottery history.

National Lottery chiefs are hoping for a repeat of the luck of the Irish after Limerick woman Dolores McNamara won more than €115,000 six months ago.

National Lottery director Dermot Griffin said: “There is huge interest in the draw right across Europe and we advise players to play early.”

“Opportunities to take part in a draw for a prize of this magnitude do not happen that often and for a tiny investment, anyone has a chance of winning a massive prize by selecting either their lucky numbers or opting for a quick pick.”

The top prize has rolled over for nine weeks.

In the event of there being a single winner, that punter would become the biggest European lottery prize winner of all time.

Mr Griffin said Irish players have been very lucky in the EuroMillions game.

“We hold the record with Dolores McNamara’s win but Irish players also won the match 5 plus one lucky star prize on no fewer than eight occasions, including a Glenageary man who last week won €288,088 while a syndicate from Co Kildare also collected a cheque for €90,361,” he said.

Overall, he said there were more than 75,000 Irish prizewinners in all categories last week.

Meanwhile, tomorrow night’s National Lottery draw should top €2m after the midweek game failed to produce a winner.

* The EuroMillions draw is broadcast each Friday on TG4 around 9.25pm.
