Four hurt in Dublin road accidents

DUBLIN city centre was the scene of near-tragic road traffic incidents last night at the close of Car Free Day.

At 8.30pm a female cyclist was run over by a truck on Dame Street to the horror of pedestrians who witnessed the accident.

The woman, who was trapped under the wheels of the lorry, was last night in a stable condition at St James’s Hospital.

A garda spokesman said she was very lucky to be alive.

Just over 20 minutes later, a collision between a bus and a car on Pearse Street resulted in three pedestrians being injured.

The pedestrians were not thought to be seriously injured.

Last night, the Automobile Association confirmed that European Car Free Day turned out to be the busiest day of the month so far on Dublin’s roads.
