Travel show to help Limerick forget its woes

IT’S been a tough few weeks for anyone trying to market Limerick city with high-profile abductions, stabbings, murder, and fire bomb attacks making the headlines.

Travel show to help Limerick forget its woes

But all that could change when one of Britain’s top TV shows tells seven million viewers to visit the city.

The Treaty city will be featured on ITV's travel programme Wish You Were Here at 6.30pm tomorrow.

Presenter Malcom Hebden, better known as Norris from Coronation Street, takes a trip around lovely Limerick and sings its praises.

The World Irish coffee-making championships, dramatic flying lessons at Coonagh Airport and Adare village, will feature on the show.

The actor will also investigate what life was like for the residents of St John’s Castle several centuries ago.

The castle is located beside St Mary’s Park, where some of Limerick’s feuding families live, including the relatives of murdered crime boss Kieran Keane.

Limerick was chosen after the country’s tallest hotel, the oval-shaped 17-storey Clarion on the banks of the Shannon, opened last year.

It’s owners say the four-star property is an example of the many positive building developments in the city.
