Hospital dispute could escalate

A PAY dispute between contract cleaners at Waterford Regional Hospital could escalate with staff refusing to enter into Labour Relations Commission talks without an up-front payment.

More than 140 contract cleaners downed tools earlier this week over pay levels.

Workers at Noonan Services Ltd sought a €2 per hour pay hike but the company said it could not afford such an increase. Staff were suspended from Tuesday last.
