Corrs set to top polls with pop fans’ vote

THE CORRS could be set to top polls of a political rather than musical variety with the release of the band’s new album, Borrowed Heaven.

Corrs set to top polls with pop fans’ vote

The popular Dundalk pop group are promoting their new CD with cheeky posters designed to look like those used by election candidates. The slogan reads: "The Corrs No 1. Ireland's Choice."

"We don't really know anything about that. It must be our record company's marketing department," said Caroline, the band's drummer, who was speaking yesterday as The Corrs launched their new album with an appearance on The Late Late Show.

"We're not ready to become councillors, although we do have strong political opinions," she said.

The group also featured on last night's Top of the Pops to celebrate the entry of their latest single, Summer Sunshine, into the British charts.

Borrowed Heaven is the group's first studio album in over four years and it includes two tracks Forever Angel and Goodbye which are dedicated to the quartet's late mother, Jean, who died in 1999.

"She was our biggest fan and we all felt strongly that we wanted to write a song about her. In the end, we finished up with one written by myself and one by Andrea," said Sharon.

The Corrs, who have been performing together for 14 years, also spoke about the happy balance they've achieved between their private and professional lives. Sharon and Caroline both got married since their last studio album and the drummer also has a 17-month-old son, Jake, while she is due to give birth to her second child in August.

"We've taken time out over the recent past to do things like setting up home and getting a sense of normality after a hectic schedule over the last few years," said Sharon.

"Andrea has also pursued her film career while Jim has become a helicopter pilot so we do have lives outside the band," said Caroline.

"At the same time, we've missed performing live shows which is the thing we always enjoy the most."

The Corrs headline the Killarney Summerfest gig on June 26 with Sheryl Crow. They are also appearing at Belfast's Odyssey on June 23-24 and The Point in Dublin on June 28-29.
