THE inquiry into the Dublin archdiocese’s handling of child sex abuse cases involving clergy will not be limited to instances where specific complaints were made.

It will also examine how the archdiocese dealt with cases where there was “clear suspicion or reasonable concern”, Justice Minister Michael McDowell said yesterday.

Mr McDowell was addressing the Seanad as he sought approval for the establishment of the Commission of Investigation. Such inquiries need the approval of both the Seanad and Dáil, a formality in this instance.
