The force is also targeting a 90% compliance rate in seat-belt wearing.

The Garda Síochána Policing Plan 2005 commits itself to the Government target, set out in the Road Safety Strategy 2004 to 2006, of a 25% reduction in road collision fatalities. The number of fatal crashes jumped from 336 in 2003 to 379 last year.
