Hospital security staff strike called off

STRIKE action by security staff which forced the cancellation yesterday of 18 operations at Waterford Regional Hospital was called off last night after a meeting between SIPTU and the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Hospital security staff strike called off

The disruption of services followed the mounting of early morning pickets at the hospital’s main entrance by employees of Sentry Security. The firm has lost its contract with the hospital to rival company Secureway, resulting in a number of job losses.

Secureway took over the contract from 7am yesterday and, in a show of solidarity with the striking SIPTU members, colleagues who are members of ATGWU and TEEU refused to pass the picket and left hospital management with no option but to cancel scheduled operations.
