DEVELOPERS and town planners will be issued with new guidelines this morning to ease the impact of new developments on traffic congestion.

From today designers of new housing and industrial schemes will have to build into their plans solutions for dealing with the increased demand for transport their developments create.

Architects will have to leave space for the extension of quality bus corridors or provide facilities for park and ride, and planners will be expected to favour developments in locations already served by or easily linked to existing public transport.
