Garda pay hits average of €1,000 each week

GARDAÍ are earning on average €1,000 per week, just €2 less than prison officers, new figures show.

While average garda rates rose by almost 6% in the last year, average prison officer earnings dropped by 11%.

Figures published by the Central Statistics Office show that between March 2003 and March 2004:
