THE GOVERNMENT was last night under pressure to investigate serious flaws in the country’s electoral register after it emerged that 800,000 extra polling cards were issued at the last general election.

The extraordinary revelation was made in yesterday’s Sunday Tribune after an investigation by the newspaper found the electoral register is somewhere between 30% and 36% overstated.

The level of inaccuracy has caused alarm in some political circles given the fact that most recent elections came within less than a thousand votes of electing a different Government.
