GPs want abortion ban lifted

A DOCTORS’ group has called on the Medical Council to drop its ban on abortion and free GPs to refer women to abortion clinics.

Doctors For Choice say the ban is not based on medical considerations and has no place in the guidelines that govern doctors’ professional conduct.

The Medical Council is planning to update its Guide to Ethical Conduct and Behaviour document and has requested submissions from practitioners.
