Nightclub victim’s family set to start civil action
Furious at the Director of Public Prosecution’s recent decision not to pursue criminal proceedings, Mr Moynihan’s father, Andrew, said yesterday: “We want somebody held responsible for our son’s death.”
The 23-year-old died two years ago after an incident, partly captured on closed circuit television, at Sidetrax nightclub in the city centre.
In June last year, coroner Dr Myra Cullinane referred the matter to the DPP’s office after State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy revised her opinion on the cause of death following a CCTV tape recording shown at the inquest.
Mr Moynihan said yesterday: “Both the coroner and the State pathologist are learned people. They obviously spotted something in the video that sparked alarm bells.
“In my opinion, the DPP remains a law unto himself but, if he wasn’t satisfied with the evidence presented, then the gardaí must not have done a good job.”
Speaking at the family home, Mr Moynihan said: “We are angry and remain angry. Our hopes were raised last year but we were let down again.
“Adrian died a violent death. He lost his life, but his death has also wrecked all our family’s lives.
“We haven’t a clue what’s going to happen at the inquest but the case will not end there.
“Whatever the outcome, we will pursue the matter.”
