Irishman shot after argument in Cyprus
Gary Lacy, 44, was critically injured when a relative reportedly fired a shotgun after a major argument broke out between the pair.
The incident took place in the village of Kissonerga on the south-west coast of Cyprus, about 8km north of the popular resort of Paphos at around 11pm (9pm Irish time) on Monday.
Mr Lacy’s son-in-law, Marios Panayiotou Themistocleous, was arrested the following morning after he presented himself at a local police station. It is understood that he is likely to face a charge of attempted murder. He was remanded in custody for seven days.
Local police claimed the row between the two men broke out over the treatment of Mr Lacy’s daughter.
A spokesperson for the Cypriot Police in Nicosia yesterday said Mr Lacy remained in “a very serious condition”.
