A DETECTIVE witness at the Morris Tribunal into allegations of garda corruption was quizzed in detail yesterday about a statement he presented relating to events up to 13 years ago.

Detective Garda Matt Tolan said the statement he made to an earlier investigation of claims against gardaí in County Donegal was based on suspicions centring on possible links between Adrienne McGlinchey, a central figure in the new inquiry, and subversive activities.

He recalled that Ms McGlinchey who has strongly denied suggestions that she was ever in the IRA or informed on that organisation to the gardaí had been seen going into the Sinn Féin offices in Letterkenny.
