St Aloysius’ honoured for a decade of fundraising
Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin thanked all current and former staff and students of St Aloysius’ College in Carrigtwohill for their efforts since 1996 in raising over €20,000 for the hospital.
The school’s deputy principal, Margot Hartnett, its PRO Dónall Ó Murchú, transition year students Therese Morley and Victoria O’Sullivan, and first-year student Freya Kearney, accepted the award on behalf of the school at a presentation awards ceremony at the hospital in Dublin yesterday.
The school adopted the hospital over a decade ago.
Its Transition Year (TY) students have organised a first-year sponsored one-day basketball tournament, called Jump for Joy, every year since. The TY students organise the competition, train the basketball teams, and coordinate the competition on the day.
All 120 first-year students took part in this year’s event which raised €3,000.
That cheque was presented to the hospital yesterday.
PE teacher Kate Kilcoyne said the school was delighted to help the work of Our Lady’s Hospital.
“The students and staff of St Aloysius have been so enthusiastic and caring in their approach to our annual fundraising Jump for Joy,” she said.
“Our principal Tony Lee and deputy principal Margot Hartnett have always been hugely supportive of our efforts.
