THE director of Cork 2005 yesterday defended the ticket distribution system used last Saturday following a flood of complaints from the public.

John Kennedy said distributing 26,000 free tickets for this Saturday’s river-based Awakening opening ceremony through dozens of Centra and SuperValu stores was the best method they had to get tickets to the people.

But he admitted he was aware of situations where the system didn’t work.
