AN African refugee who came to Ireland after her husband was kidnapped and murdered in Zimbabwe yesterday hit out at the staff who run residential centres for asylum seekers here.

Nogugu Mafu was a secondary school teacher in Zimbabwe but was forced to flee after her husband was killed for opposing President Robert Mugabe over three years ago.

She ended up in a hostel in Killarney with her nine-year-old son Methembe while her application for refugee status was being processed.
