Mixed reactions to papers with a few surprises

FOR Junior Certificate students taking higher level business studies, it was a long day with papers in the morning and afternoon.

Ciara McSwiney, a student of Coláiste Choilm in Ballincollig, Co Cork, was very pleased with the way things went with the first paper.

“We had the course well covered and I answered all five questions needed. I felt very comfortable with it and I prefer the accounting questions on the afternoon paper so I’m really happy,” she said.

Her classmate Carol O’Sullivan also thought the questions on the first business studies paper were easy. “There weren’t any really long questions and all the short ones were fine. Business is one of my favourite subjects anyway,” she said.

“It was really hard to study yesterday because it was so hot, but I was fine in the exam this morning because I was near the window,” said Carol.

The boys at Dublin’s Synge Street CBS felt that the afternoon paper was hard enough and, sensibly, they stayed with it for the full two hours.

Gary Salmon felt he did alright but he singled out the questions on ledgers and the profit and loss account as the most difficult.

Jason Cunningham Lawlor found the exam manageable and was encouraged by the fact that they had done good pre-exam studying in the school.

Gohar Jehanzeb agreed the accounting part was hardest and he did an extra question because he wasn’t sure of a previous answer.

Kevin O’Regan, who sat the ordinary level paper at Coláiste Choilm yesterday morning, said it was fairly easy even though it was harder than the pre-Junior Cert.

“Part of the last question asking about primary, secondary and services was difficult, it never came up before,” said Kevin.
