Shooting of men blamed on family feud
Attackers armed with a shotgun smashed their way into a house at Casement Close, Finglas at 2.45am where the first shooting took place.
A number of men disguised with balaclavas entered through the rear door of the house where a party was taking place.
They shot an 18-year-old man in the knee. He was taken to the Mater Hospital where his condition was stated last night to be stable.
Minutes later, the second victim who had managed to escape from the house, was shot three times.
The fleeing 22-year-old was chased down Barry Avenue by the gang. Several shots were fired and gardaí said that he had suffered three separate
pellet wounds to the head and abdomen.
The young man was in a stable condition at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin last night.
Gardaí said both shootings were linked and were part of a continuing feud between two families.
According to gardaí there were fewer than half a dozen people in the house at the time of the shooting.
Meanwhile, gardaí said they are keeping an open mind in an investigation after a homeless man died in hospital after being discovered unconscious in Dublin city centre over the weekend.
Store Street gardaí issued an appeal for a man, who alerted the emergency services, to make further contact.
The 34-year-old man who died was named last night as Derek Lynch, originally from the Drimnagh area. In recent months, he was living rough on the streets.
Gardaí are anxious to get further information from a man who rang 999 from a coin box near the GPO on Friday at 2pm.
The caller requested the ambulance services to go to a construction site near Parnell Street.
The dying man, who was in an unconscious state, was removed to the Mater Hospital. He died a short time later.
A weekend post mortem, however, was inconclusive on the cause of death.
Gardaí have not ruled out a suspicious death but insisted they are keeping an open mind.
