Man released without charge

The Waterford County Council employee arrested by gardaí in connection with their probe into allegations of irregularities within the local authority’s planning department has been released without charge.

The employee was arrested this week under the Corruption Act and detained at Dungarvan garda station under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was questioned by senior officers who for the past seven months have been heading up a major probe into the allegations.

The man was arrested on Tuesday - the first arrest to date - and detained at Dungarvan garda station under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.
