COUNTY councillors are set to revolt against plans by local authorities to impose controversial development levies on newly-built houses and factories.

Opposition to the measure is likely to intensify nationwide after members of Cork County Council yesterday became the first local authority to indicate that they will refuse to accept the new charges.

Councillors, including members of Fianna Fáil, in other areas such as Kerry and Clare have also signalled their intention to vote against the plan.
