IRISH motor insurance companies may soon refuse to pay compensation to passengers who are injured while travelling in vehicles driven by drunk drivers.

The European Court of Justice is due to issue an important ruling later this week on the ability of insurers to withhold paying out money to passengers who suffer injuries as the result of accidents caused by people driving while over the limit.

It is believed the judgement by the Luxembourg-based court could have widespread implications for people who allow themselves to be carried in vehicles driven by intoxicated drives.
