Taoiseach on verge of EU constitution breakthrough

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern faces into the biggest challenge of his political career today when he tries to get agreement for an EU Constitution.

He will also preside over the decision on who should be the next president of the European Commission a post for which Irishman Pat Cox is in the running.

The heads of all 25 states meet in Brussels for a two-day summit with several issues still dividing them.
