PLANS to give three main airports independent boards should not be the first step towards privatisation, the Labour Party warned last night.

The Government is considering appointing independent boards to both Cork and Shannon and taking the central management away from Aer Rianta headquarters in Dublin.

Under the proposals to be brought to Cabinet in September, part of Aer Rianta's Dublin Airport profits will also be diverted to Shannon and Dublin.
