Shannon gets boost with new flights to New York

SHANNON’S transatlantic flights roster received another boost yesterday when Delta announced a new service to New York’s JFK.

Delta plans an upgrading of its existing Atlanta route.

The additional flights will offer more than 100,000 additional seats to Shannon passengers travelling on transatlantic routes.

Shannon management said the expanded Delta routes will be a major boost to the West of Ireland gateway and its hinterland.

Airport director Martin Moroney said: “As we approach the end of a record-breaking year for Shannon, Delta’s plans to add a New York service and a dedicated Atlanta-Shannon service in 2006 will help to ensure an even better traffic performance next year. We estimate that capacity on the Shannon-Atlanta service will double to 120,000 seats and that the airline will add 45,000 seats to Shannon-New York capacity.”
